Rockchip’s tablet can do 3D without the glasses Rockchip supernova x1 3D tablet

After 3D-playing TVs, set-top boxes, computer monitors, laptops, phones, cameras, and handheld gaming consoles, do we need tablets that can show 3D images and videos? It doesn’t matter, because someone came up with it anyway. Built by Chinese chipmaker Rockchip, this tablet called the Supernova X1, can convert and play movies in 3D without having to don a pair of 3D glasses.

The hows and whys weren’t explained, and the specs weren’t given out—we don’t even know if they do plan to mass-produce and ship this product in its current form themselves, or if it runs on Windows, Android, or magical incense fumes—but that’s kind of irrelevant. The point here is that a 3D-playing tablet is available, in case we somehow need it. Or in case someone’s willing to pay for one instead of just buying a 3D-playing laptop. Or HDTV. Or handheld—you get the picture.

Here’s a demo video of the Supernova X1, shown playing Toy Story in 3D during an event in China. Complete with weirdly-upbeat variety show pop-music that may or may not be the reason we bought rainbow-colored bubblegum and totally forgot what the video was all about.
