While we all thought that most high-end gaming keyboards were already of the mechanical type, Razer says we’re wrong. “Most mechanical keyboards in the market today are standard mechanical keyboards rebadged as gaming keyboards that feature stiff keys that cause key actuation fatigue,” says Razer. This keyboard aims to correct all that with the BlackWidow, which they’re listing as the ‘world’s first mechanical keyboard designed for gaming.’
So here’s the deal on the BlackWidow: it features a “uniquely tactile mechanical key architecture,” which basically gives you the crisp feel of a mouse click on every key, with a new actuation point that’s enabled halfway through the travel distance. Since this is the first keyboard of it’s kind (apparently), we have no idea how different that feels, but Razer usually outs good gaming stuff, so we’re going to have to take their word for it. For now, at least.
As for the rest of the features, the BlackWidow sports five levels of backlighting for the keys, and the usual gaming set that includes five gaming keys for executing macro commands, extra audio and mic connectivity, plus an additional USB port. Oh, and in case you didn’t notice, the font on the keys look awesome.
The Razer BlackWidow will be available worldwide in September for $80.
