This here is Logitech’s new Wireless Illuminated Keyboard K800—a keyboard that looks mighty classy with the curved keys and non-neon backlighting, but packs enough smarts that make it ideal for extended use. The K800 packs an ambient light sensor that it uses to detect the amount of light in the room and adjust the backlighting, as well as a motion sensor that turns the lights off when your hands move away and on again when you get close. Both features work to save the keyboard’s battery life, which comes handy when you’re using a wireless keyboard with backlighting.
Aside from the smart backlighting, the K800 also comes with Logitech’s PerfectStroke key system that gives you a desktop keyboard’s long travel time and a laptop’s smooth, quiet key mechanism. The battery’s rated to last up to 10 days while connected wirelessly via Logitech’s tiny 2.4GHz wireless Unifying USB dongle, but a micro USB cable’s also available if you need to charge while typing.
Nice comfy keyboard if you really need to go wireless (the slim profile looks pretty good too), but the backlighting and mechanical system is just awesome for working extended hours. The Wireless Illuminated Keyboard K800 is expected out later this month for $100. Logitech’s taking preorders at their site.
