Nokia’s N8 is now available for pre orders Nokia N8 10Aaaaand it’s finally available in the US. Well, almost. After being criticized in a leak, confirmed, and then officially previewed way back in late April through May, the Nokia N8 is now available for pre-orders in the US. It’s certainly way past the point of “it’s about time.” After seeing a couple of Droids, a new touch-based Blackberry and the iPhone 4 (antennagate issues and all) launch in the US market since then, you can say it’s been a really long waiting period.

It’s priced at $549 for an unlocked phone for supporting the major 3G HSPA carriers, with no word on subsidized packages yet, but here’s what you get for the price: a 3.5-inch wide AMOLED touchscreen, full featured 12MP camera with Carl Zeiss and Xenon flash that can handle 720p video recording, up to 16GBs of internal storage, HDMI and USB ports, FM and GPS antennas, and Bluetooth and Wi-fi n connectivity.

Although the 12MP HD cam with autofocus and face recognition sounds awesome, the specs won’t necessarily blow anyone away. The hype’s all in the software though: as the first smartie to run on the new Symbian^3 OS, it’s going to be interesting to see how the new software features and widget-based interface matches up with Apple’s iOS and Android.

The waiting isn’t over yet though; ship dates are set for the end of September.

Shouldn’t be too long until we get in the UK too. I have heard that there have been some issue which which networks, will get which colours. Apparently, Orange have gone for the black edition, strange they didn’t go for the orange one
