Asus’ B series packs long life Boston Power Sonata batteries Asus B series

Asus’ two new B Series laptops, the 14.1-inch B43 and 15.6-inch B53, come with a spec that’s better than average with Core i5 or i7 processors and ATI Radeon discrete graphics and ATI’s Eyefinity multi-display tech, but that’s not necessarily the highlight. What makes these two business notebooks special? The batteries. Boston-Power’s Sonata batteries in particular, which are listed to last three times longer than your typical battery pack.

From the press release:

Boston-Power’s next generation lithium-ion technology platform provides triple the lifespan of typical notebook batteries – thus increasing productivity, lowering the total cost of ownership and supporting the environment.

That’s quite a claim, especially when your typical laptop battery can just give out and become practically useless within a year (something that we’ve experienced more than a few times). Of course, that’s just a press release. But to show that they’re serious about the battey thing, Asus announced that they’ll offer a three-year warranty on the battery along with a similar three-year warranty on the B Series notebooks themselves. Sounds like a good deal. That means your B Series is fully covered up until you have to buy a new one in three years.

The larger B53 is available now for $1,099. Price and availability for the B43 wasn’t announced, but it’s said to arrive “in the near future.”
