Frash for the iPhone is now available Kongregate Flash screenshot

Frash,” the Flash plugin that was tweaked and ported to the normally non-Flash running iPad, has been out in its Alpha form for about a month now, but if you own an iPhone or iPod touch, you’ll be happy to know that your smaller iDevice can now run Flash animations too. Developed by Comex, the guy behind the idiot-friendly Spirit and JailbreakMe jailbreak methods, just released a working Flash plugin for jailbroken iPhone 4, 3GS, and iPod touch 3G/2G.

Given that you already have a supported jailbroken device, here’s how to install it:

  1. First off, you need to pull the Frash file from a source. To do this, open Cydia, select ‘Manage,’ then tap on ‘Sources.’
  2. Tap on ‘Edit,’ then ‘Add.’ Type http://repo.benm.at in the text box, then ‘Add Source.’ When the source is done loading, return to Cydia and hit the Search tab.
  3. Search for “Frash,” tap on the search result, then hit the “install” button on the top-right of the screen.
  4. Once done, reboot your device, and it’s in.

How do you know it works? Since it’s not really an app, there won’t be any app icon generated onto your springboard, but you can test if it worked by trying to go to a Flash-infested website (try www.kongregate.com) using your Safari browser. If the ad banners show a gray box that says “Flash” instead of the default blank space with a tiny blue box that you used to get, then it worked. You can tap on the gray Flash boxes if you want to play the Flash content, although more often than not, they’re just banner ads, so it’s really not that big of a deal.

In case you run into some problems, you can also do it manually (which is how we did it to initially test it out), thanks to this easy procedure posted on Redmond Pie. You have to know how to SSH into your device though.

It should also be noted that there’s really not much you can do with your device’s newfound Flash abilities right now save for playing the animations that matter to you and a smattering of Flash ads and banners everywhere (the Flash games on Kongregate will load and play, but actual gameplay usually involves a computer’s keyboard-and-mouse interface), but hey, at least it’s working.
