Microsoft put out a teaser about a new device through their new MS hardware Twitter profile earlier this week, showing parts of a new device and a tweet that said “Don’t be so touchy…flat is where it’s at.” The mystery is as good as over though, thanks to a leak and store listing that points to a new Arc Touch mouse due out next month.
According to the leak details reported at Neowin, the new mouse is a result of a research project called “Mouse 2.0,” which centers on integrating a multi-touch surface on a mouse. If the reports are true, the new mouse should come handy if you want to infuse a bit more intuitive finger action on your Windows 7 PC without having to spend for a multi-touch display.
As for the multi-touch design itself, it’s gearing up to go head-to-head against Apple’s Magic Mouse that features a multitouch surface on top of a mouse. It’s expected to retail for $70 too—the same amount you’d shell out for Apple’s $69 Magic Mouse.
