Samsung demos unbreakable AMOLED screens
Mobile Tech - Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Move over, Apple and your Gorilla Glass, Samsung is already working on an unbreakable AMOLED display that should be strong enough to survive a hammer-weilding gorilla. Yeah, you read that right. Unbreakable. Not “unbreakable,” or unbreakable. Made from plastic AMOLED panels with polyamide protective film, you’re looking at a screen that’ll survive an insane amount of abuse. Realistically, it’s the kind of abuse that we’d never think to perform on our mobile devices in the first place, but it should give you a bit more comfort that if you ever accidentally place your phone under a moving hammer in the future, the screen should be able to live through it.

While the video shows that the technology to allow an AMOLED screen to survive insane levels of impact and bending is already here, Samsung says the screen should be out in new devices within a couple of years.

All we know right now is that this guy is sure to be one of the first to test its unbreakable claim when it does get released.
