In case you were waiting for Microsoft to come out with something more unique than the slim new Xbox 360, it looks like you won’t have to wait that long. They’re coming out with a new Halo: Reach-themed limited edition kit that comes with enough bells and whistles to make it stand out from the crowd of regular Xboxes. Not that we’d really take a gaming console to a place where we can lose it in a crowd of consoles, but we’re pretty sure some of you look—and pay a little bit more—for this kind of uniqueness. To the tune of $400, or $100 more over the vanilla Xbox 360 S.
So here’s what you get for that extra cash: the metallic Halo-ized console, a pair of matching wireless controllers, and a copy of the game. The console itself will pack a 250GB hard drive and a Wi-fi connection. As an extra bonus for Halo fans (who pretty much make up the target market), the console will also feature Halo-themed sound effects, like when you press the eject button.
Apparently, the limited edition console itself will be making an appearance in the game itself. We were hoping to avoid dropping a spoiler, but Microsoft industrial designer Claire Gerhardt already dropped a clue: “You have this console in your living room and then you go through the levels and you see it in a lab,” she said. “It’s badass.”
The Halo: Reach edition will be released on September 14, the same day as the game. So mark your calendars, Halo fans. [Via Wired]
