Apple may have known about the iPhone 4’s signal issues as early as last year iPhone 4 antenna

How could they have missed that?” That was the common question after the internets exploded with people complaining about the iPhone 4’s reception issues. Apparently, they didn’t “miss” it. According to a Bloomberg source, an Apple senior antenna expert told Steve Jobs about the issue during the iPhone 4’s early design phase, but Jobs liked the bezel antenna design and overrode the engineer’s complaints.

The report also reveals that a carrier partner raised concerns about the antenna before the June 24 release, but, well, here we are. Stuck with an awesome phone that can’t make calls without the use of duct tape.

Apparently, the issue wasn’t thoroughly examined because Apple didn’t want any leaks. If you can remember the early “lost prototype,” that iPhone 4 unit was packed into a different case. For all we know, all the early prototypes were tested using fake shells which may have prevented anyone from knowing about the final version’s “death grip” issue.

This comes a few hours before Apple’s scheduled to hold a press conference. We’ll know more in a few hours. In the meantime, duct tape works, you guys.
