Microsoft’s Aaron Woodman put up a blog post that should give us a clearer picture of what the upcoming Windows Phone 7 platform is going to offer. It includes 25GBs of free online storage, which is pretty sweet.
Search: Bing will come built-in for doing online searches. We’re not sure how comfortable the Google-using general population is going to feel about this, but we’re pretty sure you can add a Google app if you’re not into “Binging.” (We just made that word up. You can’t “Google” something if you’re not using Google, now, can you?)
Entertainment: Windows Phone 7 will come with a Music + Videos hub that’ll be based on Microsoft’s Zune software. Kinda like the way Apple uses iTunes for managing your iPod content, but according to the update, it’ll be possible to do wireless syncing with the Zune software running on a computer. At least you won’t have to always bring your cables with you, which is a nice plus.
For Gaming, WP7 will be featuring a “Games hub” where you can connect with other gaming contacts and friends through the Xbox live service for running multiplayer sessions.
Productivity: here’s where the Microsoft brand is expected to shine. As expected, it’s going to come with the Office suite that’ll include OneNote, Word, PowerPoint and SharePoint server integration, as well as web-based email support that’ll include MS Exchange accounts and other services such as Gmail.
Storage in the cloud: One of the newer developments, they also announced that they’ll be integrating more cloud-based services and features. The most notable is the addition of a 25GB SkyDrive (free online storage), and a Find My Phone service that’ll allow you to either locate a missing phone or control it by running map, ring, lock and erase commands remotely from a PC.
Woodman ended the post with a clue on availability:
“…Windows Phone 7 will be well represented in countries around the world this holiday. During initial availability, Windows Phone 7 will support 5 languages; English, French, Italian, German and Spanish. The Windows Phone Marketplace will support the buying and selling of applications in 17 countries; Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, UK and United States.”
