Productivity of epic proportions

Uh-oh…the CEO of Pain has found the Spyglass of Increased Looting. Fair maidens beware!

On a daily basis, we start our mornings with a dreaded list of chores we need to do during the stretch of daylight and before we turn in at night. But then as you retreat to your basement man cave, it’s easy to overlook/disregard a few tasks. Everything goes blur after you’ve armed yourself with a gaming controller/mouse and keyboard as you roam around your chosen fantasy role playing games’ (RPG) lush landscape.

Now thanks to the EpicWin app for the iOS, you can port on over to the real world some of the gaming elements you enjoy in the medieval-fashioned realms minus the trolls, the scantily clad female elves and the…um, virtual tea bagging. And all these while being able to actually get things done in real life.

Developed by UK-based Studio Fungfung and Rexbox, EpicWin is simply a to-do list propped up on the all too familiar RPG gaming streak. The concept is simple enough: every chore you complete in real life garners skill points to develop your character in-game as you progress a set quest map. Completing these tasks can raise your character’s experience points (XP) which have been divided into Strength, Stamina, Intellect, Social and Spirit.

Productivity of epic proportions EpicWinApp

According to the official site:

EpicWin is an iPhone app that puts the adventure back into your life. It’s a streamlined to-do list, to note down all your everyday tasks, but with a role-playing spin.

By getting points for your chores it’s easier to actually get things done. We all have good intentions but we need a bit of encouragement here and there. Doing the laundry is an epic feat of stamina so why not get stamina points for it?!

Every location in the quest map gives you chances to loot rare items like something called the “Spyglass of Increased Purving,” “A Helm of Questionable Appeal” or “A Horn of Raving.” We don’t exactly know what those are, but they sound enticing enough and worth every chore in the house to get. And you also get to boast about your items with the apps’ integration with both Facebook and Twitter. Of course it’ll take some honesty, but we’ll leave that to you, your notion of “honesty” and your mom/girlfriend/wife to determine and appreciate.

From here on out, the idea of cleaning the car or doing the dishes all of a sudden becomes more rewarding, don’t they? True enough, we do need some convincing or at least some kind of incentive program (aka a bribe engine) to actually be productive and EpicWin sounds to be like a really amusing and engaging way to go about ticking off items off your to-do list.

As you’re reading this, it’s gotten obvious that we’re pretty psyched about EpicWin and what it can do to reduce domestic ire while giving us something to work for. Unfortunately, it has yet to be launched though the EpicWin Twitter posted an ambiguous “…a month or so from now,” response. If the teaser trailer above is any indication, the app is going to be one awesome eye candy.
