T-Mobile has just confirmed that they’ll be launching the “Vibrant,” their version of the Android-powered Galaxy S, on Thursday, July 15. It’s a bit earlier than expected (T-Mo was expected to sell the Vibrant on July 21), but the earlier release date makes T-Mobile the first US-based carrier to offer Samsung’s high-end ‘droid.
Aside from a few cosmetic changes and a network tweak to support T-Mobile’s 3G band, the Vibrant will still be identical to the original I9000 Galaxy S that’ll be running Android 2.1 on launch day. Not that it’s bad news though; it could practically match the iPhone 4’s spec with a 1GHz processor and 5MP autofocus cam. It’s not as pixel-packed as Apple’s Retina Display though, but this phone will be featuring Sammy’s 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen to make up for it.
The Vibrant is set to sell on T-Mobile for $200 along with a two-year contract. AT&T’s version, the Captivate, is due out by July 18th.

Already been involved in mobile communications as an RF engineer since 1982 when I worked for Motorola. Had Blackberrys for the last eight years or so, but just pre purchased a Samsung Vibrant from T-mobile. Want some new capabilities as well as a new Operating system to play with. I’m let down that T-mobile has switched away from the wifi hotspot feature in the Samsung Vibrant, but I am certain somebody will certainly figure out how to root it as well as add the feature back in. I am now transporting a wifi only iPad and want to wirelessly tether it to the mobile phone. Looking forward to obtaining my new phone!
