Sprint just announced that they’ll be launching another Android-powered phone this weekend. The Samsung Intercept is meant for entry-level and mainstream markets though, so there won’t be any EVO 4G-like superphone abilities this time around. Thankfully, it won’t cost you any more than $100—just right if you’re looking for an Android smartie with just enough spec for decent everyday use.
Here’s what you get for $99.99 (after signing up for a two-year contract and a $100 mail-in rebate): a 3.2-inch touchscreen, 3.2MP camera, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, microSD card storage, the standard software pack you’d get with the Android 2.1 operating system, and whatever more you can find useful on the Android Market.
Everything else that you’d normally find on a decent midrange smartphone is present, with Bluetooth, Wi-fi and Sprint’s 3G (EVDO-Rev.0) connectivity, and multimedia playback. It’ll also come with Sprint’s TV, Football Live and NASCAR Sprint Cup Mobile software if you’re into the proprietary network bonuses.
Sprint will be releasing the Intercept on Sunday, July 11.
