Apple’s iDevices can’t run Flash. Or Steve Jobs doesn’t want his iThings to run Flash for one reason or another. Whatever the reason, is a pretty tired topic. But that doesn’t mean it makes no difference to us. People using iPhones and iPads are missing out on a huge chunk of the web because of their lack of Flash support, and they really don’t care about the reasons Apple gave out. Thankfully, comex, the guy who gave us the Spirit jailbreak, worked on it and created “Frash,” which is basically a version of Flash for Android tweaked for the iPad.
It’s not finalized for public release, but here’s a demo that shows it working:
According to the YouTube description, Frash is a port of the Adobe Flash runtime for Android to the iPhone, using a compatibility layer that allows Flash animations natively on the MobileSafari browser.
They’re still working on it to address stability issues, but it shouldn’t be long before we can all start playing online Flash games and watching Flash-based videos on our (jailbroken) iPads soon. As for the rest of the iDevice-owning world, Comex did drop the word that they’re planning Frash support for the 3GS and iOS4.
