New hack unlocks 720p recording on Google’s Nexus One   Nexus One 720pGoogle’s Nexus One was supposed to be “all that and more” for smartphone fans when it was first released touting a 5MP cam, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, and Google’s Android operating system, but apparently, its awesomeness was a bit limited—a bit of a let-down given the high-end spec. It’s still considered a pretty fine mobile phone though, but it did lack something found on most of its contemporaries: 720p HD video recording. Much like its “hidden” ability to connect to Wi-fi n networks, 720p recording has been in it all along. All it needed was a modded software patch to make it work.

All you need is a phone with Cyanogen Mod CM5.08test3, and the patch file (download via Megaupload) to enable HD recording. From the looks of it, this won’t be the end of the project. According to the XDA Developers forum post, they’re still working on improving audio, framerates, and Froyo (Android 2.2) compatibility.
