This is not the first notebook to come bundled with 3D glasses (that distinction goes to Asus’ G51J gaming laptop), but Toshiba’s Dynabook TX/98MBL does bear the distinction of being the first 3D-capable notebook capable of playing Blu-ray movies. Definitely something you’d want to pack on a long trip—if you don’t mind packing a 6.6-pound, 15.6-inch laptop.
To make it all work, the TX/98MBL sports a system that runs on Intel’s quad-cored 1.73GHz Core i7 processor, 4GBs of RAM, and Nvidia’s GeForce GTS 350M graphics chip that supports the company’s 3D Vision tech.
To complete the requirements needed to pull off Nvidia’s 3D Vision, the notebook also comes bundled with a pair of active shutter glasses, plus a fast 120Hz LCD monitor that’s pretty rare on a notebook. For playing Blu-ray movies, the system comes with an installation of WinDVD BD that supports 3D. All that high-end visual tech isn’t limited to 3D movies; the spec should be good enough for playing 3D games too.
The laptop’s spec is rounded out by a 640GB hard drive for storage, integrated Harman Kardon speakers for high-end audio, and a Wi-fi n connection.
It’s set for release next month in Japan for the equivalent of $2,723, but it should find its way into international markets soon after.
