Leak: next-gen Amazon Kindle to launch in August?
eBook Readers - Sunday, May 30th, 2010

According to a report over at Bloomberg, Amazon is preparing to launch a new Kindle ebook reader in August. The sources haven’t been named (described instead as “two people familiar with its plans”), but some details have been revealed to describe a device that won’t really compete with Apple’s iPad.

It looks like the improvements will mostly be cosmetic; according to the report, the new Kindle will be thinner, and will feature a more responsive screen with a better resolution. It won’t carry a colored screen though, and will most probably still carry an E Ink display that’s more power-efficient. It’ll still be primarily a book reader after all, and we really don’t expect any more changes after that. A clear screen, lightweight portable body, and long battery life is all you’d probably want (and need) if you’re looking for a reader.
