A week ago, a search for “Twitter” on the iTunes App store would get you a long list of apps for Tweeting on-the-go; a long list that didn’t include an official Twitter app. Strangely, it took quite a while before the official Twitter app for the iPhone was released, but it’s here now.
The Twitter for iPhone app should be pretty easy to get comfy with, especially for people who send out dozens of tweets a day. But it’s got something that even the most casual of users can get into: you don’t even need a Twitter account if you’re just into it to see what’s up. The app will let you browse trends and read top tweets, find popular users, or just check on public tweets from your area without having to sign in.
It’s actually retooled from the existing Tweetie app before it got renamed, but they still kept the original app’s mobile-friendly features that include geotagging and easy media uploading.
It’s now free on iTunes for the iPhone and iPod Touch. There’s no word for an iPad app yet, but it should come along soon.
