Swappable lens systems won’t be limited to DSLR cams and Micro Fourth Thirds compacts anymore. Sony has confirmed that they’re preparing to launch a new line of camcorders that’ll feature the same swappable lens system found on their Alpha NEX cams.
While we don’t know what they’re going to be called, Sony did reveal a few details. According to the report, the new camcorders will come with similar APS-C sensors and E mounts found on the Alpha NEX cams, but the enhancements will be put to work on HD video recording. Other details—or at least the few details that are available—include an eyepiece/optical viewfinder, a swing-out LCD display, and H.264 support.
Info on pricing and availability hasn’t been released yet, but they’re expected to be unveiled within the year.
