Two of this notebook’s highlights are right in the title right there. First off, this 13.1-inch notebook comes with Intel’s latest mobile processors for excellent performance while out in the field. It’s also built to survive an insane amount of abuse, including (but not limited to) six-foot drops.
Certified to follow the US military’s MIL-STD-810G and IP65 certifications (to prove that they’ll take a six-foot drop and still keep ticking), the Toughbook 31 also comes with a long list of other toughness credentials that include MIL-STD-461F and UL1604—basically proving that this notebook should also be able to survive shock and vibration, dist, rain, sand, altitude and extreme temperatures. The magnesium alloy shell features reinforced port covers, while the hard drive is protected by a shock-resistant mount to keep the data safe.
The system should satisfy field workers who need performance aside from protection, with processor options that range from a 2.26GHz Intel Core i3 processor to a 2.53GHz Core i5, 250GB hard drive or 256GB SSD for storage, 2GBs of memory (expandable up to 8GBs), and switchable graphics that can shift between an integrated Intel graphics to save on power and an ATI Radeon mobile GPU for better graphics performance.
The shell also holds a bright (1,100 nits) touchscreen LCD that’ll let you use a stylus for input, and an optional Gobi 2000 mobile broadband module in case you can’t find a Wi-fi hotspot or a Starbucks out in the woods. Battery life is listed to last for up to 10 hours.
