Google TV already in the works? google tv

Buzz about Google’s entry into the living room via something called “Google TV” has been around since last month, but Google never really confirmed that the project exists. A recent interview of a Samsung exec in Korea might have spilled the beans when he mentioned that Samsung is “examining the business feasibility” of Google TVs.

Here’s a refresher: “Google TV” is believed to be a new platform for connecting your living room to internet content. Expected to use a customized version of the Android OS, it’s unknown whether it comes in the form of independent stand-alone boxes or as an integrated feature on upcoming network-ready HDTVs, but that’s the general idea. (But if they offered the feature as a firmware update to existing net-connected TVs, that would be awesome.)

The report also confirmed that Sony’s involved in the project as well, and could be readying Google TVs for release before the year ends. If they pull this off, it could heavily affect the rest of the net-connected-TV playing field that’s made up of Apple TVs and the like.
