According to netbook insiders, Intel is planning to launch more Atom-based processors soon. That’s pretty much a given since we can’t expect Intel to, you know, stop making new processors, but if this DigiTimes report holds true, we’re going to be seeing a hell of an improved netbook standard that runs on energy-efficient dual core processors and DDR3 memory before the year ends.
Specifics on the new processors aren’t available, but they’re expected to come around within the next few months. The sources detail Intel coming out with new updates for the Atom soon, with two models mentioned—the Atom N455 and N475—that support DDR3 memory to follow on the N450 and N470 that was launched back in January.
By June this year, the sources expect them to come out with the N500, a dual-core Atom for netbooks. Asus is reportedly prepping a new Eee PC netbook based on the N500 for a third-quarter launch, and is expected to sell for around $575.
