The Nexus One has been officially listed to support the usual 802.11 b/g standatds when it was first released, but it apparently has the hardware to do better. The guys over at Android and Me learned that Broadcom and Google’s updated drivers for the Nexus One enables support for the faster 802.11n wireless standard. Good news for Android-lifers, since it apparently comes with a Broadcom chip that supports wireless N networks in the first place.
There’s a (really blurry) video on the blog that shows an Android hacker connecting his Nexus One to a router running 802.11n, made possible after he recompiled the released drivers to turn the feature on, but we can expect this Wi-fi upgrade to come automatically when Android 2.2 is expected to be released next month.
