Verizon has just announced their newest flagship smartphone, the Android-based Droid Incredible by HTC. It’s being set up to target Apple’s incredibly successful iPhone armed with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, an 8 megapixel cam, Wi-fi connectivity, and a 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED screen that runs an Android 2.1 operating system with HTC’s Sense UI.
It’s pretty much what you’d get if you fitted an 8-megapixel cam to Google’s Nexus One (also built by HTC), replaced the trackball with a small optical pad for navigation, and loaded it with HTC’s Sense interface and an app that shows you instant Facebook, Flickr and Twitter updates. As far as Verizon goes, they added an exclusive NFL Mobile app for football junkies and Skype mobile for comms.
The Droid Incredible is due out on April 29th for $200 with a contract after a $100 main-in rebate, but online pre-orders will begin on April 19th. According to info pulled from a Best Buy inventory screen, stocks for unlocked Droid Incredible units will also be arriving on the 25th. Without signing up for Verizon’s two-year contract, you can pick one up for $600.
