Shuttles new gaming rig comes with an awesome (free!) Core 2 Quad upgrade Shuttle J1 4100It’s pretty small and compact, but Shuttle’s new mini-rig is pretty powerful for its size. Not that it’s something new, since Shuttle has always been able to come out with compact performance PCs, but their newest XPC comes with a pretty good deal. What’s inside the new J1 4100’s small frame? A system that runs on either Intel’s Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad processor, up to 4TBs of hard drive space, gaming-class graphics, and a huge bonus for early buyers.

Core 2 Quad upgrade Shuttle J1 4100 bThe J1 4100 series is split into three configurations tailored to fit a buyer’s needs: the J1 4100 for entertainment, the J1 4100G for gaming, and the J1 4100P for professionals. Ok, maybe “tailored” is too big a word–they’re all actually pretty much the same machine that runs on Core 2 processors and Intel’s G41 chipset, but come with different graphics options: The entertainment model comes with the most basic GPU options that range from the integrated GMA X4100 to dedicated GPUs such as Nvidia’s GeForce 8400GS to 240GT. The 4100G for gaming can be fitted with the same GeForce 240GT GPU, while the top-end 4100P comes with an option to fit it with Nvidia’s Quadro FX 1800 graphics.

Otherwise, they’re all the same animal that can fit up to 8GBs of DDR2 memory, up to 4TBs of hard drive space via two drive bays, a DVD burner or optional Blu-ray combo drive, and integrated 5.1-channel audio.

If you pick one up from Shuttle’s website, they’re offering an awesome bonus that’ll net you a free Intel Core 2 Quad processor upgrade, a free Red Faction: Guerilla game, and a 7-button laser mouse. The offer’s good until it lasts, so check it out if you’re in the market for a desktop—that Core 2 Quad upgrade alone is really worth it.
