The guys over at MOTO Labs sought to find out which of today’s popular smartphones have the best touchscreen, and fashioned a touchscreen test that included a robot and a drawing app. Who came out on top? In terms of accuracy and sensitivity, the results show that the iPhone tops this bunch of mobiles made up of the HTC Droid Eris, Motorola Droid, Google’s Nexus One, Palm Pre, and the Blackberry Storm 2.
The test used different drawing apps and a robot that drew slow, straight lines across the screen to check for accuracy, with two levels of touch pressure to test for input. The iPhone managed the straightest lines and good input sensitivity, while the Motorola Droid ran into a major touchscreen fail, coming up with wavy lines and broken signals even with medium pressure. Next to the iPhone, the Nexus One and Palm Pre managed to come up with fairly straight lines, although the Pre lost its signal using light input.
Of course, the test used different software apps for drawing, so it’s not an absolute comparison, but it’s still something you might want to think about if you’re in the market for a phone that you can use to doodle with. Everyday uses such as text input, basic navigation and link-clicking should still work well using any of ‘em though. It’s not like people have been complaining about the Motorola Droid’s lack of “straight line support.”
Looking to draw on your phone or run the test yourself? Here’s the list of apps used on each phone:
- Blackberry Storm: Canvas
- iPhone: SimpleDraw
- Droid Eris, Droid: DrawNoteK
- Palm Pre: Super Paint
- Google Nexus One: SimplyDraw
