Here’s a different twist to the usual connect-your-iPhone/iPod-touch-to-this-dock-with-loudspeakers product. Of course, iLuv’s App Station dock (or the iMM190) still carries the usual charge and play functions, but this dock is built to work with a number of apps, so it offers a number of other functions based on what app you’re running.
Its highlight feature is the App Clock that can be downloaded for free from the App store that turns the App Station and docked iPhone or iPod touch into… well, a digital alarm clock. Not really a big deal, although it does make it appealing as something you’d want sitting on your bedside table. Somehow, the mix of the large digits and the iPhone’s easy touch interface… we can’t explain why it looks cool, but it just works.
Aside from the clock functions, the App Clock can be set with daily/weekday/weekend alarm settings, selectable snooze times, and can provide weather and temperature info while still allowing music playback.
The dock allows the connected iPod or iPhone to be horizontally or vertically oriented, and can be used as a VoIP speakerphone with a Skype app at the office or a digital photo frame when running slideshows in the living room. The compact frame—plus slots for packing it with six AA batteries—also allows it to be used as a portable multimedia player if you need a speaker kit during outdoor trips.
The iMM190 is now available via iLuv’s site for $90.
