According to a WSJ report, HP execs will be meeting in the US and Taiwan to tweak prices and features on HP’s keyboard-less tablet called the Slate. Obviously positioned as a PC-version to rival Apple’s iPad, HP is discussing selling a version of the Slate with a spec that matches the iPad for a price below Apple’s $629 asking price (this would be the 16GB iPad that comes with a 3G connection along with Wi-fi).

An official spec list hasn’t been announced yet, but an early peek showed that the device can run Windows 7 (and we hope the final version does). There’s still no word on a release date, but they did say that the Slate will be released within the year. Whenever that is, sure, we’re willing to wait. Light, full-featured tablet computer that runs on Windows 7 and compares well with the iPad but cheaper? We think that’s a pretty darn good reason to wait.
