Lumigon outs stylish Android based S1 and T1 mobiles Lumigon T1 and S1

After seeing tons of same-styled Windows Mobiles, Symbian smarties, BlackBerries, iPhones, and Palms roll by every month, seeing a stylish Android-based phone naturally got our attention. “From the heart of Scandinavia,” mobile newcomer Lumigon has just unveiled two new Android phones, the S1 and T1, with a unique look, a nice spec, and a nice new feature that lets it double as a universal remote.

Like a number of touchscreen phones being released recently, the S1 and T1 come with similar specs that includes an 800MHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor and support for HD 720p video playback (via an HDMI cable), but have different form factors. The S1 is a touch-only device, while the T1 comes with a classic slide-out alphanumeric T9 keypad.

Details for the screen—or the screen sizes—aren’t available yet, but they’ll be of the capacitive variety and will be protected by “scratch-free” glass (the rest of the body will be made up of steel and aluminum). The phones will also run on Android 2.1 OS with Lumigon’s proprietary P-GUI interface on top, and will come with Wi-fi, a 5MP cam with autofocus and flash, an FM tuner and transmitter, a 3.5mm audio jack, and the aforementioned couch-potato function that lets you use it to control your home theater setup.

The T1 is set to come out by Q2 of this year, while the S1 should follow soon after. Lumigon also outlines a third model called the E1 (“one of the most fascinating phones ever,” according to Lumigon’s press release) to be launched later this year.

Photos of the E1 haven’t been released yet, so we’ll have to get ready to have our socks knocked off when they decide to show it. And we’ll be waiting for it too; we’re suckers for hype. Especially so for the kind of hype that will cause someone to describe it as “the most beautiful phone I have ever seen during my entire 10 year career in the mobile business.” When someone describes it that way—and never mind that that “someone” just so happens to be Lumigon’s own founder Lars Gravesen—you just have to see what’s what.
