HTC’s new high-end flagship, the Desire, looks pretty much like Google’s Nexus One doesn’t it? It’s because it basically is the Nexus One (also built by HTC, by the way), but redesigned without Google’s branding that should appeal to Euro and Asian markets.
It’s not exactly the same phone though; while both the Desire and the Nexus One share the same primary features that include the 3.7-inch, 480 x 800-resolution AMOLED display, 5MP cam, 1GHz Snapdragon processor and Android 2.1 OS, the Desire seems to be the better of the two, thanks to a handful of improvements.
At the top of the Desire’s list of enhancements over the Nexus One is the new customizable widget-based HTC Sense interface and support for quick gesture-based screen jumps for easy multitasking. HTC also replaces the trackball with an optical trackpad below the screen, but drops the Nexus One’s 4GB internal memory and active noise cancellation feature for a cheaper overall price.
The rest of the Desire’s specs are pretty much the same (and just as good) as what you’d expect from the Nexus One: 3G, GPS, Wi-fi and Bluetooth connectivity, microSD card storage, the previously-mentioned 5MP cam with LED flash, and an awesome AMOLED screen with multi-touch support.
The Desire is expected to be released in Asia, Australia and Europe by April.
