Memory maker Kingston has just announced that they’ll be boosting the performance on their second-gen SSDNow V Series line of mainstream drives without having to raise the price. Now, the performance upgrade is nice and all, but we’re loving the pricing part; that’s good news for anyone (like us) looking to upgrade to newer solid state drives but aren’t willing to fork over a serious amount of dough.
Aside from the improved performance (that maxes out at 200MB/sec read and 160MB/sec write speeds on the 128GB model), the new drives will also be enhanced with support for Windows 7’s TRIM feature—a function that basically points the drive to which available data blocks to write to; this feature allows the drive to maintain optimum speeds throughout its lifespan.
Available in 30, 64, and 128 capacities, Kingston’s SSDNow V Series is designed for easy, no-hassle integration into existing systems, with step-by-step instructions and a bundle that includes mounting brackets and USB enclosures for adding it to a desktop or notebook (or as a standalone unit).
