Before getting to the part about the new phones, here’s a primer: earlier this month, Samsung revealed that they’ll be mass-producing a new AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic LED) screen that integrates touch sensors instead of slapping a separate touch-sensitive layer on top of the display. The result? Merging the two layers makes for a slimmer screen with brighter images, for a “super AMOLED” screen.
Now, Samsung will reportedly be showing off a new phone at the Mobile World Congress that will feature a 3.3-inch, 800 x 480 screen, the merged kind that was described above. The full details for the new phone are currently unknown, but apparently, it’ll be headlined by its awesome new AMOLED display that’s listed to be five times “clearer” than regular OLEDs and should be 20 percent more visible under direct sunlight. Aside from being brighter, AMOLED displays are also naturally more power-efficient than their regular LCD counterparts, so the upcoming “super display phone” should definitely be something to see.
