Rusty North America is an apparel brand that caters to the surfing crowd. Green Day is a punk rock band. Rusty has just announced that they’ll be collaborating with Green Day on a new collection of hooded apparel with built-in machine-washable headphones—something that doesn’t seem to have anything to do with surfing, punk rock, or Green Day (unless you wear the hoodies after you surf and listen to Green Day), which pretty much leaves us with an intro that goes nowhere.
Anyway, the new products will fall under Rusty’s Wired Series that use HB3 Technology called the Stealth Hoodie, and will feature original artwork from the band’s albums (which is where Green Day comes in). That’s all the info that’s available right now, but if you’re interested, the Rusty Wired Series with Green Day is due out this summer with prices that range from $60-80.
…Or you could just use any old sweater or jacket and loop any old headset through it like everyone else. Just remember to take ‘em out of your pocket when laundry day comes around. Yeah, we just don’t see the wisdom behind having to pick up a new hoodie just for the earphones. Or new earphones that are tied to a hoodie. Now, if they made a wetsuit with headphones that we can get wet with (and a waterproof iPod compartment, of course), that’s something we’d pick up.
Fun-fact-that-has-nothing-to-do-with-this-product #2051: Band name origin: they heard Ernie from Sesame Street mention “Green Day” once and it became an inside joke with the pot-loving band. That explains why early copies of Dookie had Ernie moshing on the album’s back cover until Sesame Street threatened to sue. Also, vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong has a tattoo of a small black heart on his middle finger—exactly like the one on Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl’s middle finger. Coincidence? Maybe, but we’re leaning towards starting a “they’re actually secretly married” rumor.
