Weeks after announcing the Lady Gaga-influenced Heartbeats in-ears, Monster Cable pulled Sean “used-to-be-called-“Puff-Daddy-but-decided-to-stick-with-just-Diddy” Combs from out of a hat and designed new in-ears called the Diddybeats around him under the Beats by Dr.Dre brand.
Available in black, white, and pink (pink?), the new set is described as a set that “embodies the celebration of the finest in music, luxury and pop music. In other words, these incredible sounding in-ear headphones represent all things Diddy.” Oh, and it’ll cost $179. Yeah, even the pink ones. (Picking those might be a bit weird though, since you Lady Gaga’s obviously more feminine set sells for around $120, so you can’t use the “it’s-for-my-girlfriend” excuse. Or the “real-men-wear-pink” argument, which no one buys anyway.)
Anyway, never mind how it actually sounds for a moment (since Monster Cable’s headsets do sound pretty good). The real question here is: would you pay $179 for something that represents “all things Diddy”?
Due out in April, the Diddybeats are up for preorders now for just $149. If you sign up for one now, the discount also nets you a free Diddybeats t-shirt and a sample from Diddy’s new album, which would mean that you’re willing to pony up the dough for the whole “all things Diddy” experience.
And just so you know, $149 will score you—at the very least—a new 8GB iPod nano. Or a ten-year subscription to Playboy, give or take a few bucks. Just saying.
