ExoPC’s Slate tablet looks familiar exopc slate aWe can’t say we didn’t expect it, but French-based ExoPC just came out with the Slate (click here for the translated page), an 8.9-inch touchscreen tablet that looks like Apple’s iPad, but probably better if you’re looking for full operating system features. Now, it might not come with Apple’s slick interface, but it does run on Windows 7, giving you multi-tasking, full PC functionality, a full browser with Flash, and more flexibility regarding content and functions.

Powered by an Intel 1.6GHz N270 Atom, 2GBs of DDR2 memory, and Intel’s built-in graphics (via the 945GSE chipset), the Slate gives a screen resolution of 1024 x 600 with multi-touch support. It’s not a Pine Trail-based system, so the battery life is limited to a standard 4-hour runtime. But hey, for those four hours, you basically get a touch-based netbook that runs on Windows 7. That means you get full Java and Flash-based app support, a multimedia suite that won’t care where you got your content from, and USB-based expansion out-of-the-box.

You can expect it to run just as fast as the standard early-2009 netbook though (but a bit faster, thanks to 2GBs of memory and a solid state drive), so if you think you can live with that, then this should be fine. At the very least it brings the price down to $599 to match the iPad 32GB’s price point, but you obviously get more bang for the buck if you don’t mind the thicker 2.1cm frame.

Hey this might be really a better option than the iPad. I hope this starts a new trend that would send the iPad running.

Something cheaper, and provides more functions for tablet PC's.
