LG’s retro Serie 1 makes CRT sets cool again LG Serie 1 aThese days, old CRT TVs just aren’t cool anymore. Everything’s High-def, with current consoles, digital TV programming, set-top boxes and Blu-ray players (as well as the dropping prices on LCD panels) all giving us enough reasons to ignore anything that’s more than four inches thick and just check out the HDTV shelves. LG just announced a new CRT that looks so old, that it’s actually cool. If you’re looking for an artsy tube, we can’t blame you for wanting this thing.

Detachable legs allow it to be placed on top of other surfaces.

Known as the Serie 1 Retro Classic TV, this set sports a standard CRT (cathode ray tube) for a 14-inch standard picture, and rounds out the look with detachable chrome legs, an antenna for catching signals, and retro-styled knobs (for volume and channel, naturally) to remind this generation of kids what our sets used to be like (before cable TV).

The old school looks hide some newer digital inner workings though; it comes with a modern digital TV tuner and composite video inputs that should allow you to plug in cable boxes and DVD players. It (thankfully) also comes with a remote control, sparing us from having to get off the couch to change the channel or adjust the volume.

If you want to keep the retro act up for your guests, the TV can be set to black and white or a sepia tone—not something you’d want to do while actually watching something, but it’s a nice touch nonetheless. The TV’s shell is available in orange or dark brown.

It might not be available outside of Korea though, which is a major let-down. But if you can find a way to get one, it’s going to cost the equivalent of $215.
