Belkins TuneCast Auto Live FM tuner comes with iPhone app, GPS functions Belkin TuneCast Auto Live 1

Accessory maker Belkin has just come out with what could be considered as the ultimate FM transmitter device built for iPhones called the TuneCast Auto Live. What makes it so special? Regular FM transmitters are simple accessories that allow you to transmit your iPod’s (or any other compatible porta-player) playlist wirelessly to an FM receiver, basically letting you tune in your car radio to an iPod playing in your pocket. The TuneCast Auto Live comes with a little bit more functions, along with an app that lets you control it using an iPhone’s screen.

It comes with an app that'll let you control it from an iPhone's screen. Handy.

Aside from the obvious FM transmitting functions, the TuneCast also works with an iPhone’s GPS receiver to give you GPS-assisted scanning, with the ClearScan Live app giving you the best FM recommendations as well as scan for the best frequencies to use based on where you are (or where you’re driving). It also works with the “community” of other TuneCast users in a given area, giving you station recommendations based on ratings that other users set for the available stations.

The TuneCast’s iPhone app will let you control it using an iPhone’s screen; yeah, we’ve already said that, but really, this is a very handy feature that’ll spare you from having to fiddle with tiny buttons on a transmitter while driving.

On its own, the TuneCast Auto comes with two programmable preset buttons for setting FM transmit frequencies, and a PRO setting that boosts volume and optimizes audio quality.

If you don’t have an iPhone, you’ll be missing out on the GPS-based features, but it’s still a pretty good FM kit for other players. Belkin also lists compatibility with the 4th/5th-gen iPod nano and iPod touch. It’s a bit on the costly side though; it’s listed to sell for $80, with a package that includes the 12V power cable for plugging into a vehicle’s lighter socket.

Great write up. The iPhone is truly amazing and I don’t like being without it. This time last year I had jumped in a pool with my iPhone and it was dead. I had to wait 10 days before I was able to get a new one. The phone I had was a cheap go phone. I really love all the games that can be downloaded to the iPhone. The best part about the iPhone to me is the ability to check emails on the fly. Thanks for the information.
