It’s no secret that solid state drives are the future. They’re faster, more durable, and they need less power to operate compared to traditional hard drives. Unfortunately, it’s also no secret that gigabyte for gigabyte, they’re also significantly more expensive than platter-based hard drives. If you’re looking for just enough to raise your PC’s performance, Kingston offers a quick fix by releasing the SSDNow V Series Boot Drive with TRIM support, a 30GB solid state drive that promises to accelerate boot up, shutdown, and application load times.
The 30GB capacity might sound a bit limited, but it should be just enough to run your PC’s operating system and most-used programs from for fast load times without pushing the price up too high. This thing was never meant to serve as your main storage drive anyway; it’s designed as an add-on to an existing hard drive.
Featuring read speeds of up to 180MB/s and write speeds of up to 50MB/s, the Boot Drive’s new support for Windows 7 TRIM feature adds to its efficiency, increasing the drive’s lifespan and write speeds.
Although the prices haven’t been made available, Kingston has announced that the Boot Drive will begin shipping in February. Three different bundles will be available: the basic stand alone drive, a desktop bundle that adds 3.5-inch mounting brackets to the 2.5-inch drive for desktop use, and a Twin-pack for enthusiasts that include a pair of 30GB drives and extra cables for use in a RAID configuration.
