Asus to release reader with colored OLED screen asus ebook readers

They’re a bit late to the party, but Asus has finally unveiled an ebook reader with a refreshingly different feature set. Tagged as the DR-570, the upcoming reader will look to stand out from the crowd with a bright, colored OLED screen—a nice change compared to a number of other products that tout grayscale E-Ink screens.

Official details haven’t been revealed yet, but it does look promising. According to available reports, the DR-570 will sport a compact 6-inch screen, 4GBs of built-in storage, and a battery life that’s rated to last for up to 122 hours.

The screen makes the difference here though; while almost every other ebook reader sports screens that are limited to showing text in grayscale, the 768 x 1024 OLED screen on this reader will be able to show full-color magazines and photos. It’s also listed to support Flash video over Wi-fi or 3G, so YouTube-ing on an ebook doesn’t seem so farfetched. The rest of the specs will reportedly include an SDHC memory card slot, and a compact body that weighs around 200 grams.

Asus will also come out with a 9-incher called the DR-950 with a more conventional non-colored screen, although it’ll be using a 150dpi SiPix screen instead of an E-Ink display. This larger model will come in 2GB and 4GB models; the upscaled version will add 3G and Wi-fi connectivity. Features will include most of what we’ve seen from the competition though, including a dictionary, virtual keyboard and handwriting recognition, although this reader adds a browser to the mix.

Prices and full specs aren’t available yet, but we’ll know more as soon as Asus lifts the veil.
