Aliph has released a new Icon line of premium Jawbone Bluetooth headsets, featuring what the company describes as “military-grade noise-eliminating technology.” They look pretty good too, if you’re into fashionable Bluetooth headsets that feature military-grade technology.
The new Icon line comes in six unique design “personas” (read: the overall exterior design), labeled as The Hero, The Rogue, The Thinker, The Ace, The Catch, and The Bombshell. As far as we know, only the exterior looks separate the six models, although the set does include a number of useful tech.
The set’s “military-grade noise reduction technology” points to Aliph’s NoiseAssassin technology that elimitates background noise from phone conversations. Originally developed for use in tanks and helicopters, the headset sports a Voice Activity Sensor (VAS) that actually feels your speech, letting the headset distinguish your voice from background noise.
The Icon is also apparently a little bit smarter than the average stylized BT headset, allowing users to add apps that can be downloaded through the company’s MyTALK platform for adding extra functions. Built-in features include a battery life meter show up on a paired iPhone, voice prompts that can be set to tell—“whisper” is the right term here—users caller ID and when the battery needs to be charged. The Icon also works for multiple phones (it can be paired with up to 8 devices) for people who need to shuffle more than one.
A Simultaneous Multipoint feature gives Icon users the power to manage two calls from two separate phones at the same time. Think of it as call-waiting, but on two separate lines. You know, for people who are so important (or so busy) that they get two phones to ring at the same time.
The Icon is now available for $100 at Verizon’s stores and through Aliph’s website. Other stores should get the Icon soon after, while an international release is set for March.
