Stylish storage company LaCie has unveiled three new portable drives—actually, just two new key-shaped drives called the CooKey (shown on the right) and WhizKey (left), plus a 2010 “remix” of their existing Rugged hard drive that they updated with a faster USB 3.0 connection.

USB keys that are actually shaped like keys. Why didn't anyone think of it first?
The two new drives are actually just USB flash drives shaped like keys–complete with holes for adding them to a key ring. Yes, they’re USB keys shaped like keys. Ok, we’ve seen USB drives shaped like freakin’ penguins and polar bears, and a flash drive with President Obama’s face on it, but USB drives shaped like keys? With clever names that has the word “key” in them? We’re kicking ourselves right now for not thinking of it first. We’re calling dibs on the “FreaKey drive” patent. It’ll also be shaped like a key, but covered in rat hair. And it’ll have Lady Gaga’s face imprinted on it.
Anyway, available in capacities that range from 4GB to 32GB, the CooKey and WhizKey feature different key-shaped designs (the CooKey has the round end), but both feature thin, metal bodies and Gold SIP technology that give them scratch- and water-resistance.
Both flash drives list a 30MB/s transfer rate with the USB 2.0 interface and support Windows’ ReadyBoost feature. Purchasing any of the two USB “keys” also gives users 4GBs of online storage from Wuala for online backups and file sharing.
The Keys’ price starts at $20 for the 4GB models and top out at $100 for 32GB capacities. Details for the the USB 3.0 Rugged drive aren’t available yet.
