Nokia looks to bring GPS navigation to the masses with the 2710 Navigation Edition: a low-end candybar phone that runs on a (non-smartphone) Series 40 interface and features a GPS receiver and Nokia Maps.
To keep it affordable, the 2710 NE sacrifices on high-end tech that usually accompanies GPS-equipped phones. It should still be more than good enough for everyday use though, with quad-band GSM network support, a 2MP camera, Bluetooth connectivity and a microSD card slot for storage. This phone won’t come with 3G support though, but for the people who just need the basic mobile features plus a SatNav function, this should do.
On the outside, the design and build quality isn’t necessarily flashy, but it does look pretty classic with clean lines and no-nonsense lines. It’s a pretty slim phone that measures only 13.7mm thick, but comes with a reasonably spacious 2.4-inch QVGA screen.
For helping users get around, the 2710 Navigation Edition comes preinstalled with Nokia Maps with a lifetime navigation license, plus a retail package that comes with a car mount and car charger (available in select markets). The phone also comes with A-GPS support, which gives voice guided in-car and pedestrian navigation with Nokia Maps.
The 2710 Navigation Edition will come in three colors (Jet Black, Warm Silver and White Silver) and is expected to ship in the first half of 2010.
