Universal announces BD/DVD combo discs
Home Entertainment - Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they’ll be releasing dual-format discs that contain both Blu-ray and DVD versions of their best titles. Built under the BD-59 spec, the new flipper discs combine a 50GB dual-layer Blue-ray format on one side and a 9GB dual-layer DVD format on the other.
The new combo discs will debut on January 19th next year, featuring the Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, and the Bourne Ultimatum.
Universal says the new discs will appeal to people either planning to upgrade to Blu-ray in the future or current owners of both Blu-ray and DVD systems. Although if it were up to us, why would you watch anything on DVD if you already own a Blu-ray player?
