LaCie has just announced a new network-attached storage-slash-media server device called the Network Space 2. Designed by Neil Poulton, the Network Space 2 features up to 1TB capacity, a gigabit Ethernet port for connecting it into the home network, a USB connection for adding external storage devices, and a widget-based interface for easy operation.

Setup is made easy, using LaCie;s Network Assistant that offers a new dashboard function that can be customized with widgets to access network and drive information, administer user accounts and monitor drive capacity.

The Network Space 2 device is also UPnP and DLNA-compliant, allowing it to interface with home entertainment systems as well as consoles (including Sony’s PS3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360). It can also act as a centralized iTunes server, as well as a Download Machine app that enables it to download Torrents without needing a computer.

LaCie unveils stylish new Network Space 2 media server    LaCie Network Space 2 backListed to deliver transfer speeds of up to 65MB/sec over the network, it can also be plugged directly into a PC via a USB connection as you would any regular external drive. It’s also built with a power management widget that lets users control both the light on the drive as well as manage power settings to save on power when the device is idle.

It’s available in Europe now for £139, with availability to other markets following within the year.
