Motorola has officially announced the Droid, the company’s top-end Android-powered smartphone. Featuring a 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen and a slide-out keyboard, the Droid will be offered through Verizon to compete with the iPhone—with the webpage’s concept basically saying “everything the iPhone doesn’t do, the Droid does”.
The Droid will run on the just-released Android 2.0 operating system, along with all the new features and enhancements that include the new web browser, as well as a new GPS app called Google Maps Navigation that gives turn-by-turn instructions and voice-guides.
The specs are pretty much high-end, with a high-resolution (854 x 480) screen, 5MP camera with dual LED flash, image stabilization, and autofocus, 3G, GPS, and Wi-fi. A 550MHz processor runs the show, and, while it won’t come with built-in storage, a 16GB microSDHC card will come bundled with it.
The Droid will be offered by Verizon for $200 with a $70/month contract when it’s released on November 6th.
