Samsung I5700 Galaxy Spica announced Samsung I5700 Galaxy

Samsung has just released official details on their Android-based I5700 Galaxy Spica (or the “Galaxy Lite”) smartphone. It’s set to run on an 800MHz CPU, beating the Acer Liquid for the title of “fastest Android-based smartphone” (the Liquid sports a 768MHz Snapdragon processor), although the liquid will still hold more RAM with 256MB.

The I5700’s specs are pretty close to the I7500 Galaxy, which was released last year: quad-band GSM support, 3G/HSDPA, Wi-fi and connectivity, along with the same 3.2-inch, 320 x 480-resolution AMOLED capacitive touchscreem display, although the I5700 comes with a weaker 3.2MP camera and no internal storage (the I7500 had a 5MP cam and 8GB internal storage). As for the software features, it’s expected to come with Google’s usual suite of apps, shortcuts and online services.

The Galaxy Spica is due out in Russia next month for the equivalent of US$480. The rest of the world should see it out soon after.
