Western Digital has come out with an update to their WD TV Media Player, which now adds DLNA home network connectivity and support for Bonjour services that lets users connect to home networks.
The new WD TV Media Player still comes with the original’s core features, which includes a USB host port for connecting flash drives and external hard drives, an HDMI port for displaying 1080p HD videos onto an HD display, as well as an Ethernet port for connecting the kit to the home network for media streaming and file sharing (it can also stream online content from YouTube, Flickr, and Pandora). Various audio and video files are supported, along with Dolby Digital and DTS sound formats, but the compact media box still doesn’t come with any form of internal storage.
The 2nd-gen WD TV Live is now available at Best Buy for $120, and comes packaged with a remote control.
