Sanyo has just launched the DMP-P1 and DMP-692, a pair of compact audio systems that feature basic clock and alarm functions as well as iPod docks for charging and playing.
The smaller DMP-P1 is basically a digital alarm clock that comes with the usual 2/24-hour clock function along with snooze and repeat alarm functions, and then some. It also comes with an AM/FM radio, an auxiliary line-in connection for connecting other audio players, and an Apple dock on top for charging and playing iPods. Connecting an iPod lets users set music files as an alarm (in which case, we highly recommend setting Alice in Chain’s “Them Bones” as a highly effective alarm), but it can also be set to wake you up by turning on the FM tuner.
The DMP-P1 also features a blue-backlit LCD display, a BassXpander feature for boosting the bass, and a DC battery backup mode in case the power goes out.
The DMP-692 is a more full-featured kit that also comes with the P1’s alarm/clock functions and AM/FM tuner, but like iHome’s iP88, it comes with dual docks for charging and playing a pair of iPods or iPhones simultaneously. It offers better sound quality with an integrated subwoofer, Dynamic Bass Boost control, and EQ presets, and is more refined with a backlit touch-sensitive panel, a full 20-function remote, and 40 radio presets. A battery backup is also available.
Both products are scheduled to ship by late October. The P1 will sell for $40, while the DMP-692 Dual Dock Music System is priced at $90.
