LaCie intros stylish, Starck designed external drives Lacie Starck Desktop HDD

LaCie, a company known for coming out with uniquely-designed peripherals and accessories, has just teamed up with famous designer Philippe Starck for two more designer hard drives: the LaCie Starck Desktop Hard Drive and the LaCie Starck Mobile Hard Drive.

The Desktop Hard Drive is designed with 3mm of resistant aluminum casing that both serve as protection and, well, it looks pretty good. It’s highlighted by an intelligent touch-sensitive surface that can be customized to open pre-set applications with a short tap or a long touch, and comes with its own automatic backup software. Available in 1TB ($130) or 2TB ($250) capacities, the drive connects via USB, compatible with Windows and Mac systems, and comes with a 2-year warranty.

The Mobile Hard Drive is a much more basic portable drive that’s protected by 2mm of aluminum. It doesn’t come with the Desktop model’s touch-sensitive surface, but it’s designed with looks to match and also comes with auto backup software. An embedded USB cable locks into the body for easy packing, and comes in 320GB or 500GB capacities for $100 and $140 respectively.
